Short CV:
Javier Rodríguez Viejo is Full Professor of Applied Physics at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and leads the Nanomaterials and Microsystems research group (GNaM) at UAB and the Grupo de Física I Enginyeria de Materials (a joint group between GNaM-UAB and researchers at UPC) that has obtained the distinction of Consolidated Group in the recent call of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2009SGR-01205). He performed the experimental part of his doctoral thesis at the ‘Institut des Materiaux et Procedés’ CNRS, Odeillo, France and received his PhD in Physics from UAB in 1992. Prior to his present position he was a posdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology working on the synthesis of highly-luminescent CdSe(ZnS) quantum dots and the deposition of thin film quantum dot composites by electrospray organometallic chemical vapor deposition. He has authored or co-authored around 90 scientific papers in ISI journals. He has been Principal Investigator in 23 competitive projects and has supervised 10 PhD students, being currently thesis (co)advisor of 4 graduate students. His actual research interests revolve around thermal properties at the nanoscale, focusing on thermal transport at the nanoscale and nanocalorimetry. GNaM has developed a variety of experimental tools to measure phonon transport in nanowires, thin films, nanostructures and/or bulk materials spanning a wide temperature range.
